Accommodation

Student dormitories are available at both the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, with monthly rent typically around 50 EUR. However, space is limited, and you will most likely need to share a room. It's worth noting that the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is situated outside of Stara Zagora, approximately 20 minutes away by bus. For convenience, students often choose to stay at the on-campus dormitory there. In contrast, the Medical Faculty is located within the city, making it easier for students to opt for private or shared apartments in Stara Zagora. In such cases, rent generally ranges between 200 and 300 EUR, depending on factors like apartment size and the number of occupants.

About the city

Stara Zagora is the fifth-largest city in Bulgaria, with a population of around 150,000 as of 2015. Centrally located in Bulgaria, Stara Zagora enjoys excellent transport connections, with three international airports nearby:

  • Sofia Airport, the largest in the country, is about 3 hours away by car or bus;
  • Plovdiv Airport, in Bulgaria’s second-largest city, is approximately 1.5 hours away;
  • Burgas Airport, located on the Black Sea coast, can be reached in about 2 hours.

Regular bus and train services make travel to and from these cities easy and convenient.
